Lee De Forost, chief of the American De Forest Wireless Telegraph Company, has been arrested on a charge of misusing the mails, with intent to defraud. It is alleged that he floated a fraudulent company for the purpose of explaining the De Forest Radio Telephone Company. Other arrests are pending. N [Lee De Forest, a well-known inventor, was born in 1873, and educated at Mount Hermou (Massachusetts) and Yale University (Ph.D.). He was one of the pioneers in the development of wireless telegraphy in America. He became vicepresident) of the American De Forest wireless Telegraph Company in 1902, and has been vice-president of the Itadio Telephone Company and the De Forest P«adio Telephone Company since 1907/J J>AbIJN lUiO.EiJtlV.li/. TO BE CLOSED DURING WINTER. RETURNING AND REGRADING SCHEME ADOFIED. The Reserves Committee of the City Council decided yesterday afternoon to proceed with its scheme of regrading and returfing the Ba-sin Reserve, and consequently to closd the ground during the winter months to all sport*. Speaking on behalf of a deputation' from the Wellington Football Association, tho chief sporte body Concerned with the reserve in winter, Mr. H. M'Keowen said It-hat his committee; recognised that there was a probability of their being deprived of the Basin Reserve, and had decided that in the interests of sport and the" city it Would be most advisable to returf the tesei'Ve. Ploughing would mean long delay and seriously affect amateur athletic* in Wellington. He was therefore authorised by his committee, as chairman, to state that it fully endorsed the proposal to returf and re .grade tho Basin Reserve, although it would entail the lose oi the ground to Association! football for the season. The decision of the Reserves Commits t«* subsequently Reached -wd* to recommend to the City Council the proposal to close the ground immediately after Easter week for the y/hole of the winter in order that, if possible, the ground should be ready for th& next cricket season. The recommendation, is provisional on the Wellington Cricket Association and the- Wednesday Cricket Association contributing to the cost on the basis suggested by those bodies (£SO each), with the) cervices of Mr. J. Sauuders (groundsman) included.
