m GRAND JUNCTION. . ROYAL REEF AT~ SIXTH LEVEL. [BT TELEGBAPH— SPXCIAL 10 THE POST.] WAIHI, 27th March. A make of quartz has been intercepted in the south-east crosscut being advanced to' intersect the Royal reef at No. 6 level in tho , Waihi Grand Junction mine. According to survey the Royal is not quite* due yet, but the management are of the opinion that the quartz to hand is the hanging wall section of the lode in question, in which • case the indications are that a strong body of ore will be disclosed at the low level. Until the reef has been penetrated for some distance nothing definite can be said concerning its values, but it may be mentioned that the stone at point of interception ib of promising appearance. At a point . 65ft to 70ft overhead a crosscut was projected through the reef in No. 9. .winze from No. 5 level, and proved the reef to be 47ft wide, of an average value of £3 9s 6d per ton. , OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED. The manager telegraphed on Tuesday : — "Ten pounds of picked stone from the drive on No. 2 reef. Gold showing." MANAGERS' REPORTS. Waiotahi. — "No 7 level : Driving east on the footwall dropper is being continued, and is now 90ft from the crosscut. A further 30ft of driving should reach underneath the winze sunk from No. 6 level. The reef is again somewhat disturbed, and is of a mullocky character. 1000 ft level': The contractors for driving ihe main crosscut are making good progress, and a further distance of 35ft has been driven during the week. Two small reefs have been met with, one of which has a promising appearance, and is carrying a little bright metal." May Queen. — In the Bright Smile crosscut, at No. 10 level, good country is being penetrated. The crosscut is in 449 ft. The Exchange rise is up 60ft, and the lode here is a little disturbed just now. A few colours of gold were seen, in the ore broken from this rise during the week. Good grade ore is coming to hand in the stopes on the hangingwall branch of No. 4 lode at No. 6 level, May Queen section, and gold can be leen at every breaking down His Excellency the Co\ernor returned to Wellington from Dannevirkc by > special train at 5 o'clock this morning.
