APPOINTMENT OF A VICAR i HOW BISHOP JULIUS REPLIED TO ; A PROTEST. [by telegbaph— -pbess association.] j CHRISTCHURCH, Thie Day. There has been considerable controversy lately over the appointment of a vicar to the new parish district of St. Alban's East, and a section of the Anglicans carried a strong resolution protesting against the appointment of the Rev. J. C. Mortim«r on the ground ' that he is a Ritualist. Tho position is a. \ peculiar one in that the parish has the right of a voice in the selection of the ' vicar, whereas iho appointment to a j parochial district is entirely in the hands of the biehop. Bishop Julius has now i replied to the protest stating there is no I intention to reconsider his action. He adds that peoplo "serve tho church bet- j er by loyal support of their vicar than by stirring strife and making idle protests." !
