The murder is attributed to the Prince's Ottoman sympathies. [Andre Kopossis Effendi, Prince of Samoa, was born in 1856, and became Prince Governor of Samos in 1907. Samos is an island off the coast of Asia Minor, forming a principality under the sovereignty of Turkey, under the guarantee of France, Great Britain, and Russia.]
