PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. W. B. Fuller, coastal "shipping manager for Messrs. Levin and Co., returned from the South this morning. Mr. E. N. Armit, formerly of the Evening Post literary staff, who has been on an extended visit abroad, returned to Wellington yesterday. , Mr. J. D. Ritchie, chairman of tie Government Land Purchase Board, returned to Wellington from the South, by the Mararoa this morning. Mr. H. E. Dryden, of Karori, of the Wellington Gas Company's staff, leaves by the Mannganui to-day for" a holiday trip to Melbourne and Sydney. Mr. J. W. Henderson has informed the deputation* which, .urged him to stand for the Mayoralty of Karori, that owing to pressure of business he cannot see hie way to become a candidate. In August last Mr. H. D. Vickery was appointed secretary to the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. In ita annual report the council state* that it has every reason to be satisfied with the appointment, Mr. Vickery having already justified his selection. Amongst the -visitors to Wellington are Mr. Charles Wade, a large cloth manufacturer in Bradford, Messrs. E. Milhauser and J. Payne, representatives of the New York Standard Varnish Works, and Mr. L. Meuli, of Wanganui, who is just back from England. Mr. Harry K. Cackett, of the DJ.O.'s advertising department, who is about to enter the Otaki Sanatorium, has received from the employees of the former establishment a purse of sovereigns as a mark of their regard. The hope was expressed that he would soon be restored to health. Mr. Cackett suitably replied". Mr. W. G. Callender, son of Mr. W. Callender, general manager Bank of New Zealand, leaves by the s.i. Warrimoo tomorrow for Sydney en route to the Old Country. Mr. Callender, who has been in Mr. Charlesworth's office for the last five years, proceeds to England and the Continent to pursue his studies in architecture and building construction.
