During hifl visit to Europe and the United Kingdom Dr. C..C. Farr found that the Magnetic Observatory in Christchurch was held in very high eeteem (remarks the Christchurch Press). One scientist, Professor Schmidt, of tho Potedam Magnetic Observatory, told him that science could dispense better with four of the observatories in the Northern Hemisphere rather than with the obsorvatory in Christchurch.
