STRIKE IN LISBON. CLEARING THE STREETS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LISBON, 31st January. The majority of the strikers arrested at Evora have been released. Tho strike committee in Lisbon advised the men to tefrain fj-om doing anything that would deprive the people of foodstuffs, but despite the committee's evident desire for more peaceful methods the Government proclaimed martial law in Liebon, and notified the citizens not to leave their houses after 8 o'clock, and ordered the troops to make a clean sweep of the streets, effect arrests en masse, and sond suspects to the warships. While the orders were being carried out several bombs were thrown and' the troops and cavalry then charged with drawn swords. RINGLEADERS ARRESTED. (Received February 1, 8.30 a.m.) LISBON, 31st January. A hundred and fifteen ringleaders in the strike have been conveyed to the cruiser Adamastor.
