• Speaking at a complimentary social at Christchurch, to Mr. Ensor, the unsuccessful Reform candidate for tho Riccarton seat, Mr. R. H. Rhodes, M.P., said: — " The Government professed that it still had the confidence of the count vy, but the Government party was showing that it feared Mr. Maseey would assume the reins of office, because it had started to threaten Mr. Ma6sey with a very merry time if he did take control. Stonewalls were threatened among other ' things. The Reform Party had stood taunts, jeere.and threats for twenty years, and it could stand them a' bit longer. When the -time came for Mr. N Massey to assume the leadership of the Government, the people woula speedily lealise his great capabilities. . After ISth February- they would know all about it. It was no use speculating what t would happen or forecasting Cabinets. He could only say he trusted Mr. Ma-ssey would be asked to form >a Cabinet." To-morrow, at 11 o'clock, Messrs.
