In the evening the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert in the Wei- j lington Club & pavilion. There was a ' numerous gathering of members of city and suburban clubs, presided over by Mr. J. S. Keith, president of the Northern Bowling Association, and the pro- J ceedings throughout were of the most pleasant description. The musical pro- ; gramme, arranged by Mr. E. J. Hill, was .contributed to by Mr. Hill himselt and Messrs. Alexander Newton, Borneo Gardener, J. Carr, G. Parsons, Fletcher, and M. Marks. v In proposing the toast of the visitors, the Acting-Mayor (Councillor John ; Smith) • said he was sure the Auckland bowlers would leave Wellington, with pleasant recollections of the Empire City". It was gratifying to know that so many men could take a long spell away from their homes, and, although they might not have won every game, they had made up for the losses by good fellowship and the formation of friendships and acquaintances. (Hear, hear.) Responding to th« toast. Mr. A. M. Bryden (secretary to the touring team) exteuded hearty greetings from the Auckland Bowling Association, and remarked that the enthusiasm of Auckland bowlers could be gauged from the fact that thirty-three men had started on the trip and that they were accompanied by nine ladies-. Throughout they had heartily enjoyed themselves. As to amalgamation, they found a consensus of opinion that within a short time it would soon become an acc6mplished fact, and he himself felt that even at the expense of some slight personal sacrifice it would be a good thing if that end was brought about. He hoped that as the result of the tour they would bring about an amalgamation of bowlers at least as far as the North was concerned. (Applauae.) Mr. R. Rankin also replied. In doing so he said that one result oi the tour was that nex& ytuv a t«am from the South would tour the North. (Applause.) Mr. W. M'Watters, of the Auckland team, proposed the toast of the Northern Bowling Association, and in doing so said that throughout the tour the right hand of fellowship had been extended to them, and the result was indelibly imprinted on the tablets of their memory. (Applause.) Mr. Keith, replying to the toast, apologised for the absence of some members of the executive ami of the secretary (Mr. J. J.. Roberts). Mr. C. Bary had" made a remarkably good substitute. (Applause.) As to amalgamation between th.6 Northern and Southern bodies, he 6aid the Northern Association was t in ita twentieth year, and when it " came of d,ge " it would be called the " Dominion Association." (Applause.) He believed that before many months were over bowlers all over New Zealand would be under the one banner. They were determined to go on, leaving Dunedin and North Otago to come in if they chose. (Applause.) The . gathering, which was ,of the pleasantest description, was brought to a close by a vote of thanks, to those who had contributed to the evening's enjoyment, special reference being made to Mr. Hill for arranging the programme and to Mr. M. Cohen for his services as accompanist. HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT. PRESIDENT'S AMD VICE-PRESI-DENT'S TROPHIES. The final game in the Wellington Club's anniversary tournament was played last evening. The teams in the final were :— Watson, Houlder, Williams, Porteous (skip), arid Allan, Hustwick, Pettigren, Sievwright (skip). Porteous led away at the start of the game, . and the score stood at 6 to nothing. Sievwright then began to score, and with a 4 and a 6 assumed the lead, and the game finished, Sievwright 33, Porteous 14.
