Wafaon, ihe commissioners appointed py^ the Lyttelton Harbour Board t to consider 'the commercial and financial aspects of the Sumner-ChriatJohuroh canal proposal, was presented to board to-day. 'The commission emphatically opposes the making of a oanal, and declares that Lyttelton Jim an excellent harbour, which witp im•movements in harbour and railway facilities ' can serve the purposes, qf the ■ city for fifty years. The commission contends that the canal construction would result in a heavy annual loss.
