Sim, manager of a sawmill at Reikiorangi, met with a painful accident on Tuesday, , whereby he broke a finger and severely bruised one hand while working a machine. He was admitted to the local hospital for treatment. Mrs. T. Bevan, jun., of Manakau, has left on a month's holiday visit to Pioton. The Maori brass band, which practically died completely out^of existence two yews •go, has been resuscitated, many old members promising 1 ' it support. , The organisation at one time was worthy of merit, but of recent years praotice was neglected, and consequently came the disbmndment. Mr. J. G. Poynter, postmaster, is still unable to resume his duties owing to illnew, and has been granted a further extension of leave. Ensign Hart, -who ha* successfully managed tho affairs of the Salvation Army in thie district for some time, has left for Rctorua, her new station. The first assembly of the local Territorials took place on Monday evening, when some 20 lads were put through their "lacings," and afterwards measured for uniforms.
