NEAUING THE END. THE BOWLING TOURNEY SOME CLOSE FINISHES. Flay in the Northern Bowling Association's tournament was oontinued yesterday afternoon under thepl«a*ante»t weather conditions, and the greens' played keenly and well. There was a good deal oi interesting play, including the game between Ewington (Masterton) and M'Gregor, the Carlton crack, in the last round. Up to that time the Masterton man had one win and M'Gregor had two losses, and if h» won that* game he would tie witb Snaddon in the' section. The Wairarapa men, however, played splendidly; and won by 25 to 10. The game between Craig ; (Gubotne)and M'lntosh (Onehunga) in section 1 in' the ninth round, was full of interest. M'lntosh, who won the banner last year,) had not a hope of winning the section,, 'but Craig was unbeaten ana Webb (Wellington), who was playing on the next rink, had one game to the bad. There-" fore, if Craig lost 'Webb and Craig-* would tie, and Webb cast anxious glances at the Onehunga-Gisbome con-, test going on near by. M'lntosh started badly and waa six down — 17-23— on' the 17th head. He and his team played, well after that, and the Gisborne quartette was not quite up to tho mark, with the result that by getting three on the twentieth head M'lntosh levelled scores— 23 all. When the skips wentjdown Craig was lying one, which." M'ln-C tosh remove 9. with • a nice draw and lay, the game. Craig had drawn wide, with his nrst bowl, but with his last he drew a beauty, trailing the kitty into absoute security. It was a lovely shot, and fully deserved the hearty applause that was accorded it by- the players who had gathered in the corner to .watch tho game. There was a close finish between Still, Wellington) and Chegwin (£ydenham) in the eighth .round. The score was 23 all on the last head* and in the- play, off the winning shot was not half aa, inch off the second best. Dall, 'the veteran Wellington skip, was indisposed yesterday and had to retire.' His place aa skip was taken by Hamilton, f Results of the play are as under :—> EIGHTH ROUND., SECTION A.
