CYCLING AND ATHLETIC SPORTS
The Wellington Wheelers' Club Sports Carnival, set down for New Year's Day, shoiuld pijovo a good holiday attraction in Wellington. Included in the programme are no less than ten •cycle events, such as the Wellington Wheel Race (£8 prizes), for professional riders, while the amateur riders will have a good run in the New Year Amateur Cycle Handicap, for which the prizes amount to £7 10s, also nunierous novelty cycle events, which are new to the Wellington public. Another feature of the programme is the Wellington Sheffield Handicap, 120 yds, prizes £8. This event will be, open to professional runners ; also 220 and 440 yds professional handicaps. There are amateur running events — 100 yds. 440 yds, one mile, and one-mile walk handicaps. The Scottish portion of the community will be well catered for, there being about half a dozen Highland events on the programme. Entries close on Wednesday, the 20th December, with the secretary (M. Ford).
