PROSPERITY. AUSTRALIA'S GOOD TIME.

WHAT IT IS DUE TO. FEDERAL METEOROLOGIST ON THE SUBJECT. By TelegrapU.— Prcsi Association —Copyright, (Received November 30, 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr. Hunt, Federal Meteorologist, declares the widespread belief at present in Australian prosperity is due to. the exceptional rainfall. That droughty years are certain to follow is not correct, since tho 1902 rainfall was below the average. But the farmers have benefited by the mistakes of the pioneers and the capabilities of the soil are better understood. The adoption of dry .farming and drought-resisting wheat has given payable crops in* spite of a poor rainfall. Better control of the rabbit pest, conservation of water and fodder and the tapping of an artesian basin had also helped in the prosperity. This should be an incentive to greater energy.
