Tho capsized boat would nob support tho weight of the three boys, so Ellison,- afterassisting Cuylow on to the bottom, volun* tecred to swim ashore for assistance With- * his weight gono tho skip kopt afloat, and' Hart and Ci^rlew yroro eventually pickedup by two Harbour Board employees., Ellison had a hard ew/im to the Boat Har* hour, whci'o he was picked up in a very] exhausted condition. Sir Robert, in th» course of a short address, said that them was not a more noblo thing known, to humanity tlmn i tho saving of lifo. The civilisation of a nation was judged by it 3 value qf human life, and those nations which had tho 'highest regard for it stoixj liigkesfc. Sir Robert read the certificate! and ,handed it over to Ellison.
