fBT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] BLENHEIM, This Day. Mr. M'Callum, the 1 Liberal candidate •for Wairau, delivered the principal address of his campaign at Blenheim last night. He had a splendid reception, there being a crowded audience. Mr. M'Callum said .he was a straightotit supporter of the Ward Administration, though he did not belong to the Government brand. The main plank of his programme was a graduated system ■of taxation, with geometrical progression, to get at the surplus wealth. He insisted that Mr. Duncan.'was, not an Independent Liberal, but a straight-out Oppositionist. Mr. M'Callum received a vote of thanks and confidence. A meeting of Hutt electors called in .support of Mr. Wilford's candidature was held at Korokoro last evening. There was an attendance of about fifty people, and the chair was occupied by Mr. J. Piper. Mrs. Wilford was. the principal speaker and she explained that her sole reason for coming forward herself ~ was because Of - the' state of Mr. Wilford's. health.; .She-, referred to the good work done by her husband during the time he* hatt represented the district. There was, she said, something more than a seat in the House to fight for this time, and surely Mr. Wilford * was in the doorstep of promotion. v She concluded with an appeal to her hearers to give him their hearty support .next month.
