THE OHRISTCHimCH BUILDINGS.
[»i ASSOCIATION,] CHRISTCHTJRCH, Thin Day. The Hon. J. A. Millar laid the,foundation stone of the first of eleven woikers' homes in Sydenham this morning. The sections cost £B9O, the contract price is £4241, making £5131, the total cost of the dwellings. The Mayor of Christchttrchsaid that to his mind this was one of the finest works the Government cottld have undertaken in the interests of humanity. Mr. Millar said ■the Government proposed to extend the scheme to all pa#B of New Zealand. There would be no baitack system of workers' settlements, but the cottages would be dotted about in localities eelected.
