The general elections took place yesterday. The voting was heavy, the women exercising the franchise for the first time. Preferential voting was alea introduced. The weather was fine. A half-holiday was observed. The woman (who voted i for the first tune at a. State election) turned out -well. Tlie poll closed afc 7 p.m., and the returns were very slow in coming in. The State Treasurer (Mr. W. A. Watt) has been ro-elecled. Nine Ministerialists have been return* ed unopposed. In four constituencies the contests were between Liberals only. The counting is still incomplete, but present figures show that Labour hofc lost one, probably two, scats, without gaining any. The only Ministerial Lit endangered is Sir Henry Weedon, who may be displaced by an Independent.
