At Greymouth this morning "there was still a heavy sea and a strong fresh, but there wtre prospects of •working tlie^port on this evening's tide at 6 o'clock. The Arahura was unable to clear tho tear last night, and providing she cun get ' out to-night, the vessel will probably come on* lo Wellington direct, omitting tho usual ' call at Westport, Nelson, and Picton. In that case tho steitfliei' will be at Wellington
•s u«ual for Greymouth via the other three ports. There were no movements of Bhipplng at Westport to-day, tlie Poherua, Flora, Te Anau, and Mapoui'ika being barbound outside, while the Komata was detained inside the bar, fully loaded for Wellington. < Foxtou bar, after being unworkable for several days, took a turn for the better this morning, enabling the Queen of the South to leave for Wellington. Conditions at Wanganui, however, do not show very much improvement. Steamers detained there include the Gertie, Kapiti, Stormbird, Putlki, and Arapawa, It is hoped, however, to despatch the fleet about 4 p.m. to-day. At fatea the Aorere has been waiting a favourable opportunity to leave for Wellington for about a week past, and hi company with her are the Mana and the Kapuni. The Kiripaka is sheltering along the coast en route to Patea. At noon to-day there were prospects of being able to work the port on this evening's tide. The scow Ngai'u, timber-laden for Wellington, is barbound at Euipara. The suspension of the operations of the mosquito fleet comes at a time when, in consequence of the coastal officers' recent dispute, the services of its various units were particularly required.
