EXHIBITION SURPLUS. CONSIDERED BY INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.
Th^ Industrial Association met last «vening, Mr. T. Ballinger presiding. It \k% 9 o'clock before a quorum wae secured. An'appealwas made by Mr. 3, P. Firth, headmaster Wellington College, £or -assistance from the exhibition surplus towards a fund of £300 for the establishment of a small observatory at the college. 'It was decided to iepl> that the matter of disposal of the surplus had not yet been decided on. An invitation was received and accepted from Professor Laby, Victoria College, to visit the physical laboratory. He also suggested a contribution out of bh© exhibition surplus for an air liquifying plant. An account of £57 fronri the Harbour Board for wages and material for the J shed was reported to have been paid. The resignations of W. and J. Staples (boot manufacturers). Allen Maguire (Contractor), and the Empire Box Making Company were received with regret. The Chapman, report-ing on the rela. tions between the association and the Education Board as ta rooms formerly occupied by the association and used by ,th© board, stated that Mr. A. L. Herdman had given the ©pinion that im* mediate steps should be taken to obtain legislation conserving the board's action, or legal proceedings should be taken to that end. He suggests* that the secretary should Write to th© Ecluca- j tion Boa y rd on the lines of Mr, Herdman's opinion. This was approved. j The secretary reported that the su/s ' phis from the recent exhibition (subject to deductions) was £1505 10s 9d. The cash on fixed deposit was £1300, and in the bank and' in hand £240 7s. Accounts due to sundry debtors and accrued' interest on deposit- amounted to £7 U 4d, The stock in hand was valued at £3 19s.
