SCOTTISH SOCIETY. HALF-YEARLY REPORT.

The feport of th« executive of the Wellington Scottish Society, to be presented at the half-yearly meeting on Wednesday night, states that the number of financial members has risen from, the humble total of eight, in May, 1910, to no fewer than 130, "The members have in most cases generously backed up the efforts of the office-bearers by their attendance at the various func» tionc," the report cootinties, "but our income is Ainall, and th«r greatest ca£e has to be taken with regard to the all important matted of finance. The real object in. view, via., the attainment of a club roota and reading room, can only be achieved with money, and our only sources of revenue are subscriptions and profits from the various functions held. The annual subscription is low. and the executive had no desire, for the present, to rake it. If, therefore, the general body of members are anxious that the great aim of the society ia to be achieved, it must lend it» active and hearty support to all efforts that the executive may make, in the Way of inglwides, concerts, socials, etc." The executive reports a healthy state of finance. Th»re is ft cash balance in hand of.about £22. The amount -of clerical work during th» seventeen months the executive hae been ir> office has been very great. Itiwas performed by Mr. W. Allan, to whom the executive fecommends the pajmient of a bonus of £5 ss.
