MANAWATTJ (0) From the commencement of the semifinal between Hawkes Bay and Manawatu A, it was obvious that the game was going *to be exceedingly rapid and • V«y .hotly contested. "Both sides showed unusual skill, and from start to finish the contest was of a highly spectacular nature. Nearly 2000 people watched the match, and the din of the .barrackers was simply deafening. Hal§| an hour elapsed t before the "• only scesre was "registered, as the result of the, first piece of really combined play among the, Hawkes Bay forwards. The ball came J up the right wing, and Miss Harbison passed to Miss Smith. The latter transferred to Miss Crowley, who made- no mistake in eluding the goalkeeper. 1--0. ' Both sets of full-backs were- very reliable, and they earned deserved encomiums from the spectators. MatlaWatu got within an ace of scoring on three occasions in the latter half, but were-invariftbly repulsed. -Mr, J. ,W. GendalJ carried the whistle. NELSON (S)T~BULLIR (1)« After give and take play, Nelson • had an excellent chance to score, but tug Buller backs consistently sat down round the goal-mouth, whether by accident or design they themselves know best. Towards half-time Nelson was still attacking, but the enemy's rearguard, especially Miss N. Hale, was strong. ( A few minutes before the Whistle went for the spell Nelson scored a dashing goal. A forward centred well, and Miss H. Emms shot an exceptionally hard drive into the net. From the bully-off in the second spell/ Nelson attacked, and it was evident that, though Buller might occasionally assume tne attack, the neater and more scientific play of Nelson must tell. At length Nelson was awarded a penalty bully in front of the Buller goal as the resuit of tSe tactics of the keeper. Miss Cartick took it, and scored after a hot encounter. Nelson 2, Buller 0. Shortly after Nelson again scored, and Miss Emms added the second goal to her own and the third to her team's score. Nelson 3, Butler 0. Undoubtedly the play of the winning team was as good as has been seen throughout the week. They added yet another goal to their score, when Misfr Simpson put through a fairjy long shot after a, ruck before the net. • Nelson 4, Buller 0. A penalty bully before the Nelson goal gave Buller one goal against their opponents' four. With about five minutes to gp the Bulle* team showed signs of waking up. but Nelson again pressed hard, and Miss Tfgram scored the fifth and last goal.
