HORSE FEED.

TO THS fifiltoa. Sir",— ln Dunedin the carriers charged *he merchants with keeping up the price of feed. The merchants said it was the farmers. 1 Somebody must be making a huge profit out of the poor horses. In Wellington I am led to believe that tne owners have to pay £6 to £6 10s per ton for chaff, and the price for carting is the same now as when chaff was only £3 per ton. The result is that the horses only get half rations of chaff and no oats at all. To remedy this, I think that tho duty should ba taken off Australian chaff till such time as the New Zealand-grown stuff could be sold ab ft fair price. Hoping that something will be eton« for the Sakft of th& horses.— -1 am, etc., t . OATS. Wellington, 11th September, 1911.
