There Sir Joseph Wai-d afid party were embarked, the steamer sailing agam after a stay of three hours. Port Said was reached on the 19th July, and the voyage was continued the same day. The bad weather lasted about a week, and in consequence Colombo was not made untit the Ist August. The Ruapehu left for Hobart the same day, and straightway ran into strong south-east trade winds and a heavy head sea. By the time ahe had arrived at fiobart she was considerably behind time, and the large quantity of cargo to be put out at that port further delayed her Com« ifig through Cook Strait more bad weather in the shape 01 a heavy easterly gale was tnefc With. THE COLLISION AT AUCKLAND, ' Further particulars are to hand In connection With the sinking of the sscow Huia by the paddle-steamer Wakatefe in Auckland harbour on Wednesday night la«t. It appears that, at the time of the collision the Wakatere, winch is commanded by Captain Farquhar, was coming from Thames with about 25 passengers on board. Shortly before 8 p.m, Captain Farquhar left the bridge for a few minutes after seeing that all was clear, leaving the second mate in charge. Sooa after leaving the bridge he heard the telegraph bell ring, and immediately went ob decK, and found that I the Wakrttere had struck the bows of the Hula. The skipper of the Huia. and the two members of .the crew were taken on .the steamer, and the Scow rapidly filled witft water and turned over. The second mate, it js siatcd, did not sco any sign of the scow until her red light suddenly loomed up, He at once gave orders to have the engines reversed, and at the time of the collision the steamer had not much way on, otherwise, it is considered, she would have cut right through the scow. The damage to the steamer was slight. The General Post Office authorities advise that the R.M.B. Maitai should be within wireless range to-day. The Te Anau left Westport to-day for tyt« telton, The Flora was timed to sail from Lyt» telton at S o'clock this afternoon for Wellington.
