THE LAW'S DELAYS.

CffitlsTCKU&eH COMPLAINTS. (*X TELEGBASIf— SPtGIkt So *HS fOST.] CHRISTCHORCS, Thi* Day. It is probable that the law's delays are best known to the people meat intimately concerned with the administration of justice, and they appreciate to the full the niceties that lead to many t postponements. The legal profession in Canterbury, however, has, during the past year experienced a series of delays that has- given rise to some complaints. On Monday his Honour Mr. j Justica Denniston mentioned at the Supreme Court that the civil sittings in Christchurch would be limited owing to his having to go to Timaru on 2nd September, and from there to the West Coast, after which the Court of Appeal would occupy hie time until November. During the present session his Honour's time has been fully taken up, but more than one csee hae had to, stand down owing to the limited time at his disposal, and after his departure Christ. j church will be without a Judge for nearly two months. The delays, owing to the amount of ground to bfe covered I by his Honour, have been fretly com- ! ttfented upon by the members of the profession, who consider that nest year there should be some alteration to re- | lieve the Canterbury Judge, upon whose circuit a. greater amount of work was thrown by the discontinuance of the District Court. It has been suggested that ! one of the Judges stationed 'in Wellington might take additional work in the South Island, and thus give My. Justice | Denniston more time in Cbristehurch, t It is understood that the Canterbury ! District Law Society intends to discuss the matter fully at a futui>e meeting.
