LIVERPOOL TRAMWAY STRIKE ATTACK ON THE CARS. ORDER. RESTORED BY MILITARY. PROPOSED TRADE UNION AMALGAMATION. The Liverpool Shipowners' and Stevedores' Associations strongly urge the tramway authorities not to yield to th« Strike Committee's threats, considering that it will be inimical to a lasting peacd. 'The strikers organised a procession, which the authorities prohibited from marching through Scotl»nd-roftd. The resident* were incensed, A mob of three thousand attacked the tram cats, smashed the windows, and assailed the drivers and conductors. The military restored order. During the burning of a motor factory at Lincoln the mob jeered the brigade, and stoned a fireman wha wa« wading in the river to obtain water. A wall fell, killing a constable and fatallj; injuring a bysftander. A scheme is in progress to amalgamate the trad* unione, Mr. Ben Tiltet states that, if effected, ii will have an initial membership of a' quarter of ft million. It is intended to pool the funds and standardise the benefit*.
