PERSONAL MATTERS.
/ Mr. Shaldrick, manager for tHe Northern Company at Onehunga, is on a visit to Wellington. The Rev. W. E. Gillam, vicar of St. Matthew*, Auckland, will be a passenger for Sail Francisco by the Maitai, which will leave Wellington to-night. He is to make the trip for the benefit of his health. Mr. H. W, Brown, of Messrs. Laery nnd Company, Ltd,, accompanied by Mrs. Brown 4 leaves to-morrow for Auckland to catch the Navua for Suva and the Islands. They expect to be away for two months. Among the many congratulatory mes« sages received by Sir Joshua Williams was an appreciative letter from the Secretary for the Colonies (Mr, L, Harcourt), recognising Sir Joshua's manU fold services to the Empire. Captain Strang, Marine Superintendent for the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived from Dunedk by the Warrimoe. this morning, and will go on to Tahiti by the Maitai this evening. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Strang. Whilst attending to hia duties at the < Defence offices yesterday, Captain Stuart Robinson was taken suddenly ill. and had to be removed to hospital.
