ManaWatu, however, put on a spurt in the second round; and goaled thfieo to their opponents' once. Five of the home tfeam's goft-ls were shot by Roots and one by Jones. Scorera for Manuwktu were Harker (two goals) and Hughes (one goal). Prior to resuming their journey the visiting team were entertained at lunch t and tea, and expressed the hope to again meet their conquerors thie season. WELLINGTON REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. . Last evening the Wellington Referees* Association^ received a letter from the Rugby Union asking if it was correct that the members of the association had refused to sign mutual agreements to act at matches as ptt/vided in, Ruls 10, and, if, so, on what grounds they refused. The chairman pointed out that ho rule existed in regard to an agreement. There had been a, bylaw in 1856 or 189?, which, set out that in the event of the captains of the teams, agreeing to a certain referee tliaft- referee could be appointed. That bylaw was thrown out at a special meet- 0 ing, feat was revived- in later years. Mr. L. Sievers said there was an understanding between msmbers not to sign agreements, After a Fomewhat lengthy discussion ifc was decided, that Messrs. Neilson, Sievers, and 'Connell interview the' Rugby Union in regard to the matter.
