MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. For insobriety, Win, Mylnn was fined 20s, with tlte option of 7 days imprisonment and fcwo< first offenders were each. fined Ss. Another first offender had his bail (10s) estreated. Two charges of obtaining board and lolging in Wellington by means of false pretences were- preferred against a young man named Albert Erneefc Reams. Chief-Detective Broberg said that ifearns, an old offender, went to different boarding houses im the city and told a tale that he was employed on a local newspaper. At on© boardinghouee at which he stayed he informed the landlady that he desired her to prepare accommodation for eight of hie friends, who were arriving from Napier. Thelandlady prepared the' accommodation, but the sight friends failed to appear. Kearna also was missing after a few days. A somewhat similar story was told at another boardinghouse, the number of friends being reduced to three. Ke.irn«, who- pleaded guilty waa sentenced to one month's imprisonment on one charge atid to three months on the othe*. The t&rme were made to run concurrently. On a further cha-rge of having obtained money by false pretences at Napier Koarns was remanded to appear at Napisr on the 4th met.
