MILITARY TRAINING.
APITI AS A SUITABLE CENTRE. , (aX TELEGRAPH— gffiCIAI, TO TflS POST.] FEILDING, This Day. The medical examination of the Feilding contingent of eligibles 1 under the new defence system begins today. Iti this connection it is hoped that the military authorities will endeavour to minimise as much as possible the inconvenience to residents in the back country in connection with the territorials by establishing convenient centres in the country districts for periodical drills. The desirability of utilising the central position of Apitifor such a, purpoye is pointed out, for it is easy to residents of Raflgiwahia and ptlte Marton block, to Utnwai, Table Fiat, Umutoi, Upper Pohangina, and Coal Creek. There ig plenty of flat ground around the township and such a step would go far towards reconciling those compelled to serve in the forces to the system, for there- would not be the loss of time or dislocation of work consequent upon taking them away from their homes for days at a time. The erection of a drill hail at Apiti could be carried out at no great expense. PALMERSTON N., This Day. Up to the present about 200 youths have, been examined under the compulsory sefvioe regulations in this district and there have been only seven rejected as unfit.
