MASTERTON MATTERS.
CBX TBtESSAPH— SPECIAL TO TMB POST.] MASTERTON, This Day. Chief Inspector Fleming and ActingInspector W, T. Grundy, of the Wellington Education Board, a.re at present in Masterton conducting tho quarterly examination at tho District High School. Mr. R. J. Dagg, one of the vice-presi-dents, is representing the Masterton A. and P. Association at the conference which is to be held in Dunedin this week, with the object of forming a Clydesdale Breeders' Association. Mr. William Schrader, 'an old identity of Masterton, died in the local public hospital yesterday, at the -age of 80 years. The deceased was highly respected by all who know him. An interesting debate took place last evening on the subject, "That freehold, with limitation of area, is the beet land tenure in the interests of the Dominion," between teams from the Eketahuna. branch of the Farmers' Union and tile Maeterton Parliamentary Debating Society. The team from Eketahuna took the affirmative, while the Maeterton team supported the negative. The judge finally decided in favour of the visitors, who gained 237 marks out of a possible 400, against Masterton's 230. The visitors were subsequently entertained at supper by the Debating Society in the Farmers' and Commercial Club. The rainfall registered locally during the month of July totalled 7.43 inchee, being distributed over seyenteen days. The heaviest fall was 2.30 inches, on tho 10th. Froste occurred on 21 days, the most severe being 14.5 degrees on tho 15th. Early lambs are beginning to make their appearance in several parts of this district.
