MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr. W. O. Riddell, S.M., presided at the- Magistrate's Court today. For drunkenness, Win. Cotter was fined 108, with the option of 48 hours' detention. > Three first offenders were convicted and discharged, and another ,wa« fined 6s. Oeo. Cowan waa mulcted in a penalty of 40s for assaulting Robt. Russell. The alternative was seven days' imprison* tnent. Denis Long was convicted and discharged for innobriety, and fined 10a for damaging Government property. He was ako ordered to pay cost of the -damagft, 6s 9d. John. White and Frank Miller, two middle-aged men, who were found by night without excuse in a yard in Tory» street, were charged with being rogues and vagabond*. They were convicted and ordered to com© op for sentence when, called on, a condition being that they leave the city within twenty 'four hours. John Chambers, who entered the Albion Hotel during the currency , of a prohibition oorderr r was fined 40s, with the option of fourteen days' imptteen' ment. John Green, an old man f wa# fined 40s, with costs 7e, for indecency. Mr. P. J. O'J&egan appeared on accused's behalf. John, Michael Sheehy was made the subject of a prohibition order. Oeo. Schmoii's application for variation of a tnsifttenance order was refused. Mr. O'Leary appeared in supe&rt of the application, and Mr. V. w. Jackson opposed it, t Edward Bevan wae mttkted in penalties amounting to £3, for disobedience of maintenance order. He was ■ also ordered to pay sofieitor'e fee £2 2s. Mrs. Beva-n's application for the custody of two children, wae granted. }h.
