Kennedy is back in Wellington, after visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wilson, in Wanganui. - The Hon. Mr. and Mrs. Buddo ate staying at 164, Wellitigtoh-terrace. Mr. I-line, M.P., and Mrs. Hine are at 183, The Terrace. Mr. Laurenson, M.P., and Mrs. Laurenson aro at 126, Tina-kori-road. The many friends of Miss Mafg&rofc Piuon will be glad to hear she is making good progress to recovery. She is in the Brougham-streeffc hospital, , Miss Eileen Chaffey returned to Aus< < t/ralia by tha Moana yesterday. Mrs. J. K. Hamiltom, Oriental Bay, and her daughter, aje leaving by the Ulimaroa next Friday on a short visit to Sydney. The ball promises to be a great success. Over fifty posters are being prepared, and many prj&es have beun given. Among the donors are Mr. Lit- | llejohn, who gives the first prize, and j Mesdames Macarthy, Coull, S. Kirkcaldie, Winder, l')r. Plaltft-Mills, mid Miss M'Lellan. The pri&es are to be shown in Messrs. Littlejohn's window. The_ Coronation Kxhibitiofl ball— held last night in the Stadium, was worthy of a better attendance, for everything had been done to make the guests enjoy themselvets. The hall was brightly light and' decorated with flags and foliage and curtains 1 , and great trouble had been taken to improvise a supper tooto by screening off a side, and there were, set flower-decked tables laden with good things. The floor, tco, covered with scrim and' then with French chalk, had been made an excellent surface— -and the dancers to-night will benefit by the polishing it received last evening. Among those present were Mrs. Ballinger, in black satin, Mrs. Luk«, in bla-ck velvet and lace, Mrs. Fletcher, in silver grey silk. There Was & tremendous interest taken in the paper-bag cooking demonstration yesterday at the Exhibition, and those who were able to see avowed themselves quite delighted with the results. The menu was — beef t-e,^, stuffed tomato, steamed fish, grilled steak, kidney and 1 bacon, plum es.%o pudding, a baked cits- | tard. There was a thrilling moment when the beef tea, in its little bag. was drawn from the oven, btit though it was quite 6ucce6sful and pala-table it might have been stronger with longer cooking. Tho tonulo looked delicious, and tho fi&h and sausages and other items were cooked apparently to perfection. There was no smell, and, of course, no waste, and it did not matter I what was put _ into the oven at one time, for, in this mode of cookery, evil communications do not corrupt bad maamera. For hours' the patient, crowd — many of whom could only hea-r, and see in eudden peeps between hats' and shoulders, and one of whom declared all ehe heard was a crackle — waited round the Gas Company's etand and lumg over tho railings above. It was a.n intensely interesting exhibition, ?nd women are so eager to make experiments that their i men folk are beginning lo wear anxious looks. ' The Wellington Harriers held their fifth ( amiual ball laH evening in St. iVicf'ts Schoolroom, which was decorated charmingly for the occasion with pale blue draperies and flags and daintily Gliad&d pink lights wreathed in lycopodium. The stage was tnade into a pleasant resting-place ' for the chaperons, and set about, with palms and foliage. Mr. Williams' s band played excellent music, and the supper, which was good, was supplied by Mr. .Hall, the tables being decorated with j-ellow narcissi in pink vase?. The lion, secretary (Mr. F. Wilton) ought to be highly satisfied with the happy result of his arrangements, The exhibition of Coronation pictures, in connection with the Y.W.C.A. annU versary, is to be held next Friday in the Town Hall, and the box plan is now open at the Dresden. The ladies of the Hult Golf Club, despite adverse ground conditions, hold a competition on Wednesday last, counting for the L.G.U. senior and junior medal handicap championships. The bebt scores in each grade were made by : beniors, Mrs. Murphy, 96—15—81, juniors, Miss Rathbone, 123—50—73. On Wednesday next the first round of the senior and junior club championships will bs played, and on Thursday a team of seniors aaid juniors will meet a like team from tho Wellington Club.
