CLAIM AGAINST SHIPPING CO.
Hearing of the case in which Mason, Struthers, and Co., Ltd., Christchurch, .proceeded against the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Comany, Ltd,, to recover the sum of £143 Zs 6d, was concluded iii> the Magistrate's Court before" Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., yesterday. Plaintiffs claimed £13P as damages for defendant's alleged failure to deliver certain goods shipped in good order and £13 2s 6d, storage oh the goods, tt appear* cd that the goods (coils of telephone wire) were refused by the coheignee, and then remained on the wharf tor sometime. The defence was that the goods wera badly packed, and were damaged before beihg shipped, owing to contact with other goods. Counsel for the defence also pointed out that that under tv clause in> the bill of lading the Tompany, refused to accept responsibility for damages due to the negligence ol it« stevedores. Decision was reserved. Mr. A, Blair appeared for plaintiff and Mr, ,W, H» D. Bell for defendants.
