FOOTBALL.
WELLINGTON RUGBY UNION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING. The usual meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Hugby Union was held last evening, Mr. S. S. Brown in the chair. The Auckland Union notified that it would play Wellington at Wellington on the 9th of September. The Wairarapa Union wrote agreeing the play the Wellington junior representatives at Carterton on th© sth of August. It was decided that the Hutt-Melrose fifth-class game, which was discontinued last Saturday, be replayed in town late in the season. Tho game was stopped by the referee because a spectator persisted in blowing a whistle every time the Melrose team looked like scoring. A 1-etter was received from the- Athletic Club re the appointment of a referee for the game Athletic v. St. James on Saturday. Th© letter stated that Mr. Simpson had agreed to act, and the Appointment Board had" appointed him, At a subsequent meeting of the Referees' Association Mr. Simpson's action in agreeing to act as referee was severely criticised,, and Mr. Simpson decided not to act. The Athletic Club considered the association's action was unwarranted, and tho union was asked to insist on the appointment standing. On the motion of Mr. Hales, it was decided to ask the association if referees will refuse to sign any mutual agreement form, and, if so, on what | grounds. It was pointed out that tho j association had an unwritten rule that I no refereo is allowed to enter into any agreement with clubs to referee in any match* ASSOCIATION. NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A special meeting of the New Zealand Council was held laet evening, Mr. H. N. Holmes presiding. The secretary of the Canterbury Union wrote complaining that the Rugby Union had refused to kt it have a ground at Chrietchurch on Saturday next for the Brown Shield fixture, Canterbury v. Manawatu. It was therefore in the position of having to hold the match on one of its own grounds, and instead of charging for admission merely taking up a collection, Tho council decided that it was not within its province to interfere. It also resolved not to forego the usual ten per cent, deducted from the gross takings of the match. Tho appointment of Mr. J. B. Paton as referee in the match was confirmed. The Taemanian Football Association, intimated that it agreed to Mr, Gibbs a-cting as London representative of Which fact it had already advised the- London Football Association. , Mr, J, M. Oilier cent in his resignation as treasurer. It was decided to ask Mr. Mathieson to accept the position, WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. The Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association met at the V.M.C.A. last evening. The Auckland Association intimated that it was desirous of sending a fourth division representative team "to Wellington towards the end of the season. The matter of arranging a match was referred to the Boys Sub- Committee, The Johnsonville Club wrote stating that the local public school eleven was prepafed to play matches in' Wellington in connection with the_ recently established schools' competition. The Mai'ist Bros', School also advised that ifc was entering another— a B team —for the schools' league. Complaint was received from th© Corinthian's Club that it had played at Mirafnar five times this season. Could lfc not, ifc asked, pla-y more pames in town. The communication was received. A protest received from the Porirua Sixth Division team that a Swifts' player was over age, was referred to the boys' eltb-eommittee. Mr. H. Green tendered his resignation as a member of the Management Committee. FOURTH DIVISION TBIAL MATCH. Fourth Division trial match is to be played at Duppa-street next Saturday at 1.45 p.m. If wet the gam© will be played at Seatoun Park. Following are the .teams :—: — A team (white) : — Bidmead, goal ; Boberts and Wilkin, full-backs ; Bosher, Oloeman, and M'lntyre, half-backs; Kellaway, Temperton, Leversedge, Parkin, Guise, forwards. The representative native football team defeated the Hastings sub-union by three points (an unconverted try) to nil. The ganie was very even.
