LIST OF MAYORS. Palmerstou North has been specially privileged in having the services of its best citizens in tho capacity of either Mayor or councillors. Under the seal of the corporation, which is considered one of the handsomest in the Dominion, works have been carried out which are a credit to the town, and to the carrying out of which the town owee much of Us prosperity. Tho Mayoi3, past and present, who held office in the order named, some of them occupying tho position more than once, are aa follow : — Messrs. G. M. Snelson, J. Linton, F. Jensen, A. Ferguson, L. G. West, 8. Abrahams, E. Edwards, W. Park. W. T. Wood, H. Haydon, C. Dunk, E. C. Hurley, M. Cohen, R. Essex, and J. A. Nash. The Council Chambers contain tho photographs of every Mayor with the exception of Mr. L. G. West. Mr. J. A. Nash, the present occupant of _ the Mayoral chair, has commenced his fourth term, being returned three time 3 unopposed. Mr. Nash is a very popular Mayor, being ever at the call of every society, which requires his services in a social capacity. In this ho is ably seconded by his wife, who is ever ready to help the cause which needs assistance. THE TOWN CLERK. The present Town Clerk,' Mr. W. H. Collingwood, has been identified with the town for over twenty years, thirteen of which he has spent in the services of the borough. For the previous seven years he was a journalist em- . ployed on the staff of the Daily Times, which was at that time the leading country journal of the Dominion. Mr. Collingwood has a wide knowledge of the town, and to him the writer is indebted for a considerable amount of information contained in this article. PRINCIPAL OFFICERS. 'The principal officers of the staff are the borough engineer (Mr. S. Jickell. M.1.C.E., roferred to elsewhere as a capable officer), Mr. J. R. Hardie (chief ckrk). and Mi 1 . W. H. 13amard (sanitary inspector). ' THE PRESENT COUNCIL. The names of the present council, which promises to convert tho town into
denominations have suitable places of worship.
