[Under the terms of the law of 26th December, 1907, the Spanish army is organised on the reduced basis of an effective of 80,000 men, which at certain times of the year the Minister of War may raise to 100,000, on condition of reducing the effective at other times of the year to compensate for the additional outlay. Obligatory service, with exceptions, is three years in the active army, ilhree year* in the first reserve, and six, in the second reserve.]
