BOXING.
LANG v. LESTER. FORMER WINS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 13th May. Jack Lester, the American heavy, weight fighter, met the Australian champion boxer "Bill" Lang" at tho Sydney Stadium on Saturday night. A great crowd witnessed the match, which proved inconclusive. Five torrid rounds were fought. Towards, the close of the sixth round the American, in delivering a heavy body blow, landed on Lang's fending elbow. Suffering pain from the blow, and with a hand partially crippled, Lester turned his back on Lang, and stalled to walk to the middle of the ring. Lang followed, and was preparing to deliver a blow when tho American dropped on his knee. . / The referee (" Snowy " Baker) thereupon disqualified Lester for ' dropping without receiving a blow, and proclaimed Lang the victor. Lester showed himself a willing, punishing fighter, but was lacking m bMH, Lang outpointing him in every round. A medical man, "who examined Lester, stated that the blow ho had delivered on Lang's lending elbow had driven the circumflex nerve, near the shoulder, against the bone, causing intense pain. Lester protested ignorance of tho rulewhich lost him the fight. In America, he said, they, were allowed to do as he had done. He is keen on another match.
