DONALDSON DEFEATS HOLWAY. A RECORD. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. MELBOURNE, 13th May. At the Exhibition Oval to-day there was a big crowd to witness the threedistance match between C. E. Holway (America), tho ex-champion, and Jack Donaldson (Australia), the champion, for the sprint supremacy of the world. Tho articles of agreement called for the m-eu to run over three distances — 75yd5... 100 yds, and 220 yds — whatever happened! Donaldson easily defeated Holway, winning the- first event by sft in 7 3-5 secj the second by 3yds in 9 4-ssec (a record ror a grass track); and the third by 6yds .in 22 l-ssec. • . [Last month' Donaldson, who was born at Raywood, Victoria, and lived for yeai«" at Inglewo'od and Kerang,' regained, the title of champion of the world by beating Holy/ay in a 100 yds race. (Holway had taken the title from him in "the previous, year.) Both 1 men declared themselves to be in- the best condition, although Holwav wore a porous plaster across his back.* -He was much he«A*ier than Donaldson. He weighed 13st, or 21b or 31b over his usiial running condition, while Donaldson ran at his' ordinary weight of 10.2. Holway got off- the mark first, and had a slight advantage for iho first 25 or 30 yards. Donaldson then command, and ran in front about half a yard to a. yard up to about 50 yards, where Holway made a great' effort. Donaldson, however, was in fine' form, and- drew svway until he increased his lead to about a couple of yards. At 80 yards Holway was hopelessly beaten, and. recognisiug it, he slowed down, and Donalusou, amid great cheering, ran in winner by three yaids. The time was ldsec.]
