EASTBOURNE AFFAIRS.
,ms#-i j , The Eastbourne Borough Council met on Saturday. There were present — The Mayor (Mr. H. W. Shortt), Councillors Button, Bannatyne, Organ, Pilcher, Morris, Wills, and the Town Clerk (Mr. J. D. Avery). .It was reported that the Councillors had made an inspection of the Borough, and as a result the following works were recommended to be carried out :— -(1) A 9-inch culvert across Rona-street extension, adjoining Mr. D. Robertson's property, so as to protect the road from storm-water; (2) formation of footpath on north side of Rata-street ; (3) erection of lamps at (a)" Rata-street, (b) Oruaroad south, (c) Mahoe-street, (d) Nikaustreet east; (4) taking of permanent levels for road and footpath at southern Muritai, the formation of footpath from Nikau-street to Allen-street to be then proceeded with; (5) culvert at Marsden's, Nikau-street, to be finished with concrete junction; (6) removal of gorse at Muritai water reserve. The report was adopted excepting clause 4, which was amended to read "that levels .be taken, but that before the formation is proceeded with a report as to cost be obtained." It was resolved to join the Municipal Association. Councillor Organ was appointed to represent the borough on the Hutt Park Committee in the place of ex-Councillor Mackenzie, who was accorded a vote of thanks for and appreciation of his services. Tho Town Clerk was instructed to issue summonses for all rates outstanding, on _3Cth May. Consideration is to be given next meeting to the estimates for the year; also to a scheme for tree-planting ..The question of stray cattle was considered, there having been received several complaints of the nuisance. It was resolved to take effective eteps to [ deal with tho matter.
