CORRESPONDENCE.

WORKERS' TICKETS. ZO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Like your correspondent "Kilbirnie," I wish_ to raise my protest against the one-sided concession given to the users of our cars in the workers' tickets. One would certainly be led to believe that the workers only were the real owners of. the cars, and that the man who toils with his brain night and day, and those engaged in similar pursuits, were really granted a privilege to ride at all. Personally, I live in Hataitai, and rarely get the privilege of a seat to work. I start * work at 8 o'clock, and generally labour on till 9 to 10 at night. My daily cost of riding to and from my work ia lOd to la, out then I am not classed as a worker, and the council's present policy, apparently, is to give those who use the cars the least the greatest concessions. It is time people woke up to these concessions and realised at whose expense they aro made. As an instance : — A. worker who lives at Lyall Bay travels return fare 3d for nine miles (4£ miles each way), or 54 car miles "per week, for Is 6d. " My work necessitates tae using the care six times daily over the short part of two sections, in all one mile, which costs mo Is daily. Thereforo, when I have ridden my 54 miles it has cost me 9e. The injustice • of this class concession vis monstrous, and I submit that peoplo who use the cars the most should be treated a little more liberally. It is not an injustice to old Ireland, but the middle classes. — I am, etc., ' HATAITAI Wellington, 12th May, 1911.
