■ THE MONEY MARKET. The Bank of England rate of discount remains at 3 per cent., to which it was reduoed from 3£ on 9th March. A year ago the rate was 4 per cent. The open market rate for best three months bill* is 2s 6d lower on the week at 2i per cent. ; a year ago it was 3 3-16. Short loans are 10s lower at li per cent. ; a year ago the quotation was 2|. In Paris the open market discount rate is 2s 6d lower oa the week at 2 j?er cent. (2-i a year ago); Berlin also reports a similar reduotion, to 22 per cent. (3 a year ago). GRAIN AND FLOUR. Wheat.— -The market olosed a shade easier, on a deoline in Amerioa, due to the better weather reports, but a strong Continental demand oontinues, with Home and British speculation rendering a serious relapße improbable, although the European crop outlook is favourable. Holders are asking 35s 6d per quarter for South Australian steamer parcels, January shipment, and 35s 3d for New South Wales April shipment. An Australian cargo has been sold at 35s lid, and two others at 35s 3d. There is an improved demand for Australian wheat on the spot at 37s to 37s 6d. Flour. — More activity prevails for o.i.L lots, South Australian and Victorian May shipment selling at 23s 6d to 23s 9d per sack of 2801b. TheTe is a slow demand for spot flour at ,24b 6d to 255, the same price as last week. Oats. — Market firm, high prices restricting salfen. New Zoaland Gartons arc quoted at 20s to 22b per quarter, eparrowbills at 19s 6d to 21s 6d, and La Plata oats, for May-June shipment, at 14s 9d. Beans. — In small supply. Spot quotations are 35s to 365. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Butter. — The market is quiet. Danish is unchanged at 111b to 113s per cwt. A few of the choicest brands of colonial butter arriving are selling readily. Australian salted makes 96s to 98a, and occasionally 100s (about the same as last Week), and unsalted 102s ; a few lots have reached 104s. New Zealand salted is 2b down at 104s to 106s, and Unsalted 2s lower at 108s. Secondaries are neglected. European supplies are increasing rapidly. Cheese. — The market is steady, and New Zealand coloured is in better demand at 62s per cwt (unchanged). Sugar. — German beet sugar, 88 per oent. net ti&e, is 10s 7d (5d up), first marks granulated, 12s 8d (5d up) per owt. BRADFORD WOOL MARKET. The Bradford wool market keeps firm, at late rateß. Tops: 64's are quoted at 27^d per lb, super 60' s at 27d, common 60's at 26d, 56's at 22|d; 50's at 19id, 46's at 15id, and 40's at 14id. These quotations show no alteration. METAL MARKET. Yesterday's closing quotations, compared with those ruling a week ago: — • Silver. — In bars, id lower at 24fd per ounoe, standard. Copper. — On the spot, 8s 9d lower at £53 10s per ton; at three months, 10s lower at £54 1b 3d; electrolytic, 2s 6d lower at £66 ss. Tin.— On the spot, 70s higher at £195 10s per ton; at three months, IDs higher at £189 10s. Pig-iron. — Middlesbro' No. 3, 2d lower at 45s lid per ton. , (Received May 13, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 12th May. New Zealand wheat, new crop, is quoted at 35b 6d (?), and old at 34s to 34s Od. Lead imports total 14,907 tons, and exports 5797 tons. (Received May 13, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, 12th May. At the kauri sales, 88 cases wore ofl'ered and 16 sold. Prices were unchanged. Bar silver is quoted ill 24 11-16 d per ounce.
