SALE OF THE HIMITANGI.

FOR THE WELLINGTON-CHATHAM ISLANDS TRADE. Tho Chatham Islands Fishing Compatty, Ltd., completed negotiations this morning for the purchase of the wellknown coaatal steamer Himitangi, 149 tons net. The vessel is to bo insulated for the carriage of fish, and will be placed in the Wellincton-Chathani Islands trade. The Himitangi, which is 136 feet long, with a beam of 24 feefc and a draught of 9 feet, was built at Paisiey, Scotland, by Messrs J. Fullerton" and Co. for Messrs Levin and Co Limited, of Wellington, in 1899. Her engines are by Messrs. Muir and Houston, of Glasgow. THE WEATHER. Wellington's thrilling blueness to-day lias been shared by a largo area of the North Island. The rain has circled southward for the present. At 9 o'clock HokitiKn had showers' and the Bluff was swept with gusts of rain. Changeable conditions are predicted,, with. a probability of heavy sliowers from the south and west in many districts, especially on the West Coast and in the far South.* NEW HARBOUR TUG. o- ( In the shipbuilding yards of Messrs. b. Wood and Sou, near the Taranaki<sfcreet wharf, is approaching completion a tug, which has been ordered by the Harbour Ferries Company for harbour pur-, poses. The new vessel, which is solidly built of kauri, with spotted gum framing, has a length over all of 78ft, a beam of 16ft, and a depth of Bft, and is copper, fastened and sheathed. Her decking is of kauri and the beams are of hardwood, and lying on the ways in the yard she presents an appearance of the solidity and strength requisite far a vessel designed for towing purposes. She is 42 tons register, and her engine* are 180 h.p. indicated. The engines and boiler are from Messrs. Plenty and Son, Kewbuxy, England, and arrived by the Tainui on her last trip to Wellington. They will be installed by Messrs. W. Cable. and Co. ,The tug, which has not yet been named, will be launched some time next week^ FOOTBALL ATTRACTIONS. • TO-MORROW'S GAMES. In continuation of the Union's' senior championship contests two excellent, games are down for decision to-morrow, to which pride of place will probably go to the meeting between 'Poneke ; and Athletic at the Park. Poneke have one loss for the season, that inflicted by Oriental last week, in which the beaten team showed some excellent football, especially in the second half. Athietic have one defeat also, having succumbed to Petone in the first match of the season. The Petoue team meet Melrose on No. 2 ground, and although the latter team have fallen away from what they were a few years shrco, they have a young enthusiastic set' of players, capable of giving the suburban team a close contest. At Petone St. James meet Oriental, and as neither has yet suffered a lose considerable interest will attach to the game. At Hutfc Old Boys meet Victoria College. ■ Followers of the game will be pleased to know that the accident suffered by Frod Roberts on Saturday last proved to be less serious than was at first thought, and the half-back will probably be seen out again to-morrow week. Reports of the afternoon's matches will bo published in The Pest Sports Edition to-morrow evening. BATHING FATALITY FEARED. * About 3 o'clock this morning a man's clothes were found on the beach at Lyall Bay, near the quarry.
