The steamer left the Australian, port at 8 p.m. on the 3rd tost,, and had a fine weather trip. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Talnui arrived at Wellington this morning from LytteltOD, and berthed at the Glasgow Wharf. The Tainui will complee loading, and sail for London via, ports on Thursday next. THE HELEN DENNY. TThe Duchess completed her 80 miles tow of the barqne Helen Denny from Wellington to Cullen's Point, Hood Bay, in about 12i hours. Leaving on the return journey at 2.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon the ' Duchess arrived back at Wellington <at 10.45 p.m. After loading 240,000 ft more of white pine, the barque will leave for Sydney. For the return trip to Wellington the Helen Denny will probably load coal at Newcastle. Captain S. Holm, master of the vessel, returned with the Duchess last night. On Monday however, he will proceed to the Sounds to rejoin the barque. SUEREY, FOE NEW ZEALAND. After loading at West of England ports next month, the Federal-Houlder-Shke steamer Surrey is to leave Liverpool on the 24th June for Auckland direct. Other New Zealand ports of call are Napier, Wellington, Lytteltoa, and Dune-din. PASSENGERS FOR VANCOUVER. Cable advice has been received by the local agents of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company to the effect that the lonic, which left London on the 30th March for Wellington, via Capetown and Hobart, arrived at the latter port at 8 o'clock this morning. Yesterday the agents ab Hobart received a wireless message from the lonic stating that she expected to arrive at Hobart at 11 o'clock that evening, and would berth this morning The steamer is not now expected at Wellington until Wednesday. The P. and O. boats escepted, the lonic Is the first Home steamer trading to New Zealand waters to carry wireless. All the Shaw, Savill, and Albion liners are now being fitted with the apparatus. Arnott, formerly of Greymoutb, his been, promoted to chief engineer of the steamer Wainul, which is now engaged In the Tasmanian trado. j The Jane Douglas sailed At 0.55 this morning for Hokltika, via the powder ground ab Kalwarra, -where she shipped a quantity of explosives. The Kahu left Napier for Wellington at 4 56 p.m. yesterday. For the return trip she, will load caso oil ex Briez Izel. A cable message received at Ohristchurch on Wednesday from yydney announced the death of Captain Kidd, a. brotrter-in-law of Mr C. ForrJer, and of the late Captain Brown, of* the pilot service. For the past three years Captain Eidd, who was very well known in Lyttelton, had commanded the steamer Belle of Ireland, which only arrived in Sydney a few days ago from Valparaiso. The late Captain Kidd was at one time master of the ship .Hollinwood, which put into Lyttelton some years ago with a cargo of coal on lire. Later, when proceeding to San Francisco, she fell in with an American ship which was on lire and rescued the crow. On her voyage from San Francisco to England the Hollinwood had to be abandoned otfiug to another outbreak of fire. Captain Kidd last visited Lyttelton five years ago in the steamer Frankdale. H.M.S. Pioneer, which was floated into dock at Lyttelton on Wednesday, is to have a new blade fitted to her port propeller. She is also being cleaned just, below the water line The Pioneer is the first warship docked at Lyttelton for about five years. The collier Ngatoro is to sail from Greymouth this evening for Wellington, The Tokomaru arrived at Lyttelton yesterday from Dunedin for discharge of the balince (1850 tons) of her cargo from London. The vessel will most likely load at Port Chalmers, Bluff, and Timaru. The keel of the new steamer for Lake Wakatipu is 1 to be laid by Messrs. McGregor and Co.'s foundry, Dunedin, within the next few days. It is expected that the new steamer for the Clutha River will be launched in about a month's time. Mr. Anderson, lato of the Kaituaa, has succeeded Mr. Keynes as chief officer of theCorinna. Mr. G. Brown, engineer of the Jade Douglas, signed off the vessel's articles yesterday. Mr. T. Fraser, late of the Taviuni, has joined the Kiunona as chief steward in place of Mr. H. C. Watts, who is undergoing medical treatment at Wellington. Mr. J Healy, late chicf • engineer of tie Mapourikai will be a passenger to Sydney to-day, it being his intention to join the Manapouri as chief engineer. Mr. J.
