It is officially announced that Sir Francis Hopwood will occupy the position of Permanent Under-secretary for the Colonies during the Imperial Conference. [On. 3rd March last, Mr. Lewis Harcourt (Secretary for the Colonies), replying in the House of Commons to a question^ said that he was refraining from appointing a new Undersecretary for the Colonies in place of Sir Francis Hopwood (retired) pending the meeting of the Imperial Conference. He added that it would be discourteous to take a step seeming to prejudice the result of the discussion. . Sir Francis Hopwood would occupy the polt honorarily during the conference.]
