ATHLETICS.
PRESENTATION OF CHAMPION, SHIP CERTIFICATES. The championship certificates won by local amateur athletes at the provincial championship meeting in January last and the medals won by members of the Wellington team at tho New Zealand championships gathering at Christchurch in March, were presented at a meeting of athletes in tho Hotel Windsor yesterday evening. Mr. A. Marry att, president of. the Council of the New Zealand Amatouf Athletic Association, made tho presentation}}, and, in doing so, congratulated the members of tiie Wellington Centre's tea/m on winning the champion shield at the New Zealand meeting, against strong opposition. It was pleasing to notice that amongfet the winners ol tho provincial championships were representatives of several new country cluba. As the occasion would probably be the laet upon which he would address them as preeident of the council, he wished to offer his best wishes for the future, and to express the hopo that those in power would carefully foster the intereetfi of the country clubs. » !Mr. D. M'Laren. M.P., also congratulated the Wellington team on its victory. The following were awarded provincial championship certificates for 1911 : — 100 yds— R. Opie, 1; Half-mile— J. F. Wilson, 1 ; One Mile Walk— G. Turner 1, P. Fitzgerald 2; One Mile Flat— D. Binnie, 1 ; 220 yds Flat--R. Opie 1, F. C. Hubbard 2; Long Jump — F. C. Hubbard 1. It. H. Daweon 2 ; Putting Shot — L. M'Kay 1. A. Bksett 2; Throwing Hammer — A. Bissett, 1 ; 120 yds Hurdles — R. M'Kenzie 1, H. A. Hodge 2 ; High | Jump — h. M'Ka-y and H. A."~Hodffe, i; Three Mile Plat— L. E. Baxter 1, C. Rodberry 2; 440yda Flat— J. Wilton 1, .and Bannister Cup ; 440 yds Hurdles A. C. Kitti>, 1. New Zealand championship medals were won by the following: — L. M'Kay (pole vault), 1; L. M'Kay (hop, step, and jump), 1; A. Bissett (throwing tho hammer), 1; F. C. Hubbard (100 yds), 2; F. C. Hubbard (long jump), 2; L. E. Baxter (one mile flat), 1; J. F. Wilson (880 yds flat). 2; D. Cashman (three milo walk). 2; P. J. Fitzgerald (one milo walk), 2.
