DASH FOR THE SOUTH. MESSAGE FROM AMUNDSEN.
SIR. S. SHACKLETON INTERVIEWED. WHAT MAY BE MEANT. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received April 21, 9 a.m.) CHRISTIANIA, 20th April. A report received from Captain Amundsen, leader of the Norwegian Antarctic expedition, states that eight men and 115 doge were laaided at the Barrier, and that the dash for the South would begin directly the vessel Fram departed 1 for Buenos Aires. Sir Ernest Shackleton, interviewed, said that if Amundsen started on 15th February next he would be able to sledge until mid-April, but it would be impossible to cross the crevasses of the Bewrdmore Glacier in tfhe darkness and with a probable temperature of lOOdeg. below zero. It was possible that Captain Amundsen's message meant that he ,was laying depots to the South.
