LABOUR IN THE ARGENTINE.
I*T lELBGaATH — SPSCIAt- TO IH* POST.] AUCKLAND, This Day". Trades unionism has' made very , little progress in the Argentine Republic. Referring to the industrial aspect of the country, Mr. F. K. Caasells; of Buenos Aires, told a Herald reporter that there had been 'little combination of labour, and what there had .been -had unfortunately been, accompanied by violence. "There have been labour troubles," he continued, "but for tho time being the Italian arid Spanish workmen find the conditions of living and the wages bo -much better in the Argentine than in their own countries that they sesm 'to have settled down to a period of content. The statistics issued by the Minister of- Agriculture apparently show a disproportionately high, wage compared with the' cost of living, but it* must be known that the cost> of living is thao of people from Southern, Europe who' live in 'conditions that would' be absolutely impossible for a British ■ workman."
