MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
To-day'a sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M. Kate Sweeney was sentenced to twentyono days' imprisonment for drunkenness. Two first offending inebriates were leni.iently dealt with. Wm. Newman and John | Wm. Lucas were each fined 40s, with the |» option of fourteen days' imprisonment, for a broach of a prohibition order. For drunkenness, they were convicted and discharged. ■ Michael O'Brien, alias Doyle, Frank Voss, and Thos. Lane were charged with stealing 3s in money and two railway luggage tickets, of the total value of £5 3s, from the person of Leonard David M'Cracken. On the application of ChiefDetective Broberg a remand was granted until the 26tb inst. Bail was fixed in the sum of £50, and two sureties of £25 each. Edward Reynolds, charged with supplying and using an instrument for an unlawful purpose was further remanded until the 26th inst. Bail was allowed as before. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for accused. A remand until the 25th inst. was also granted in the case of Annie Petersen, charged with using an instrument for an unlawful purpose. Bail as before was allowed. Mr. A. L. Herdman represented accused.
