YACHTING.
THE OCEAN RACE. The yacht race from Port Underwood to Wellington, organised by the Wellington Cruising Club, was concluded yesterday afternoon. The Ngaira left Port Underwood at 8 a.m., followed by the Kotire at 8.5, the Rhona and White Heather leaving at 9.20. A full-eail southerly breeze with a moderate sea was experienced, but the "rip" at Sinclair Head was exceptionally heavy, and the Rhona put back for Port Underwood. Kotire was the first to cross the finishing line at 3 p.m., White Heather coming next at 3.13, aoid Ngaira at 3.26. The Malaria and Waitangi also returned yesterday from Port Underwood. The Port Nicholson Yacht Club' held a picinc yesterday at Somes Island. Some two or three hundred members and guests were present, and despite the threatening weather the outing proved very enjoyable.
